Amy Potthast, Director of Programs

Amy comes from a large, close-knit, diverse and sprawling family and as a result, she loves togetherness more than just about anything else. How happy she is to have found her way to JVC Northwest — the crossroads of so many people who are connected by community, simple living, social & ecological justice, and spirituality. Previously, Amy served as a program director for Idealist.org where she authored the book Service Corps to Social Impact Career, designed career transitions training programs for service corps, developed web content, produced four original podcast series, and directed the annual Idealist Grad Fairs national tour.

She’s also owned her own instructional design firm and managed projects at Conversant, a firm that teaches leadership globally. Early in her career, Amy served as a Peace Corps Volunteer (Fuling, Chongqing, China, 1998-2000); as an AmeriCorps member with Notre Dame Mission Volunteers AmeriCorps (2000-01); and as a VISTA Leader with Clara Barton AmeriCorps VISTA Corps. She’s a graduate of Carnegie Mellon University and earned a Master of Adult Education with a concentration in organization and human resource education from Oregon State University. She lives in Portland, OR, with her husband, sons, cat & dog.
