For the Four

A Celebration of Our Core Values

Since 2006, former volunteers, friends, and supporters have come together annually for what has become our largest celebration and fundraiser of the year. This year, we’ll be gathering on May 6 at Seattle University to raise critical funds to support the ongoing service of our JVs and JV EnCorps members.

This year, our goal is to raise $150,000. These funds will make it possible for us to support our volunteers in a transformative year of service as they respond to community needs throughout the Northwest.

Your gifts to JVC Northwest have a wide-reaching impact:

  • Individuals in need across the Northwest receive increased services
  • Nonprofit partners grow their capacity for doing good
  • Jesuit Volunteers and EnCorps members develop and strengthen a lifelong commitment to justice

Meet Our Honorees

Nancy Armstrong-Montes

Fr. Jack Morris, S.J. Memorial Award Recipient

Nancy’s JV journey began when she left Detroit, MI in 1971 for Omak, WA where she served for four years at St. Mary’s/Pascal Sherman Indian School. Her time at Marygrove College in Detroit gave Nancy the foundation for teaching the first grade as a Jesuit Volunteer. Nancy then moved to nearby Nespelem to continue her teaching career on the Colville Reservation until retiring in 2012. Nancy is now an active member of the Nespelem School Board and Sacred Heart Church and continues to volunteer at Nespelem School as the Volunteer Music Teacher. She also coordinates the Religious Education Program at Sacred Heart. Nancy and her husband Dennis have been married for 44 years. They have two daughters (Brita and Morgan) and four grandchildren (Franklin and Eliza and Lily and Eli). Nancy continues to be a strong advocate for students and the Native community. Nancy and Dennis live a prayerful and generous lifestyle, and their home is known to be a place where those in need can find support and refuge.

Bridget Calfee

Magis Award

During her ‘03-04 JV service year in Hillsboro, OR running kids programs at Community Action Organization’s family shelter, Bridget was a part of a conversation that recognized a need for services for youth in unstable housing situations in Washington County. In 2005, a few months after her JV year, with support from a $3,000 start-up grant, a steering committee, and numerous volunteers, Bridget founded HomePlate Youth Services. Today, 18 years later, HomePlate is the only agency in Washington County with the mission of serving youth experiencing housing instability ages 12-24 through drop-in centers, street outreach, education, employment, housing, and connection to resources and to mentoring adults who guide them along a path toward stability. Since its founding in 2005, HomePlate has served over 4,000 youth. HomePlate has also been a JVC Northwest partner agency, hosting 23 Jesuit Volunteers since 2010. When not at HomePlate, Bridget can be found enjoying life with her partner, 3 kids, and beautiful community—many of whom are FJVs.
