Lydia Wilson, Recruiter
I grew up on the rural banks of the Tennessee River in a small town with a big sound in the music and artist industry. Friday fall evenings in Florence, Alabama consisted of strolling down Court Street with legendary Trowbridge’s ice cream and admiring the art of all forms lining the street. I moved to the Gulf Coast after high school to attend Spring Hill College and got my bachelor’s in Health Sciences there with a personal focus on women’s health. Experiences at Spring Hill, and especially volunteering senior year at a multi-purpose primary care clinic for the uninsured, grew my passion for engaging in social justice issues and conversations. After college I made the move to the Pacific Northwest to begin my JV year in Aloha, OR where I served at a drop-in/resource center for youth experiencing homelessness and fell deeply in love with the PNW. Fresh off the ending of my JV year, I joined the team in August 2018 as a Recruiter for JVC Northwest where I will be traveling the country and (hopefully!) inspiring new young folks to be #ruinedforlife.
In my free time, I enjoy hand embroidering gifts for friends and family (a hobby I picked up during my JV year!), conversations about women’s sexual/reproductive health, listening to podcasts, talking about the Enneagram, rereading Harry Potter, making emotionally accurate playlists, and treasure hunting in Portland’s vast thrift store scene. As a lesbian woman, I am very passionate about social justice issues regarding the LGBTQIA2S+ community and other conversations around equity. I also find immense joy in dark chocolate of all kinds, showing people pictures of my cat, Ellen, and wearing holiday socks year round.
