At the Fall Regional Retreat, the Alaska JVs were led through an exercise to create “I Like” poems by local poet and facilitator Na Mee. This is what Juliette wrote about Sitka.
I like… early morning time with Hailey after 5:30 am gym
… watching ocean waves crest sitting at my work desk
… the moss covered trees in the forest
I like… hearing raven’s feet pattering on the roof, smelling smoked salmon, and tasting Kolbie’s homemade goodies.
I like… when we sign & dance in the kitchen
… when I lose track of time in ceramics
… when I feel proud of my work
I like… how Sarah picks me up on the walk to work
… giggling with Claire while visiting the preschoolers
…watching students have fun at the SSSC
I like… seeing all of Sitka from Gavan Hill ridge
…the view from Sawmill Creek Road
… the mountains from the Muskeg Trail
I like… salmonberries, Back door sammies, berring eggs, Xtratuff boots, Northern Lights & bookstores
I like Verstovia, sunsets & bears, Claire’s laugh and Maria’s silliness
I like… feeling home.
