Katy Langenhorst, Recruiter (she/her)
Growing up the youngest of three in Walpole, Massachusetts, I also spent a lot of time in the Pacific Northwest visiting family and friends throughout my childhood. My dad and his siblings are from Washington (Go Cougs!), so the region has always felt familiar and special to me. As an FJV and the daughter of two FJVs (my dad served in rural Alaska and my mom in Sacramento, CA), I’ve seen firsthand the lifelong impact this program has on both its members and the communities they serve.
I graduated from UMass Amherst in 2023, where I studied Public Health and Spanish and was actively involved in an Alzheimer’s awareness group and Engineers Without Borders. Both groups, along with my coursework, sparked a deeper interest in environmental and community health justice and ignited my want to serve. I spent my JV year (’23-24) in Bend, Oregon with AmeriCorps as a Community Outreach Specialist with Thrive Central Oregon, supporting individuals navigating barriers to stable housing and connecting them with essential resources. The role deepened my understanding of meeting people where they are at and using empathy as a strength when accompanying them through complex challenges. The support of my community mates and the broader JVC Northwest community rooted me in compassion throughout the year. This past year (’24-25), I continued my service with ECO AmeriCorps in Vermont as a Communications and Outreach Specialist with the Vermont Association of Conservation Districts, supporting statewide conservation work.
Other things I love: basketball (HUGE Celtics fan and I root for the Zags every March), swimming, rom-coms, concerts, learning Dutch on Duolingo, baking birthday cakes, cuddling with my dog, road trips, and FaceTiming my little niece! I’ve also just started my journey into line dancing, so stay tuned!
I’m so excited to be back with JVC Northwest as a Recruiter and can’t wait to welcome you into this incredible community.
