Michael Farrell, JV Program Coordinator (he/him)
I was born and raised just outside of West Philadelphia and never thought I’d end up falling in love with living life in Alaska. After graduating from Saint Joseph’s University with a degree in Philosophy, I hesitantly moved to Juneau, Alaska to serve as a JV at Zach Gordon Youth Center, where my days were filled with pick-up basketball games, lots of fried rice, and endless belly laughs. Hooked on the community I was forming in Alaska, I moved to Anchorage for a second JV year at Partners for Progress Reentry Center, where I supported individuals being released from incarceration and/or involved in the therapeutic courts. After my time as a JV, I worked for an Anchorage-based organization supporting transition-aged youth experiencing houselessness.
I recently moved out of state for a brief stint while my fiancé (another former Alaska JV!) attends grad school, but my role as the Alaska Program Coordinator allows me to stay embedded in the Alaska communities I hold dear while supporting new generations of JVs. Beyond work, I love to play my banjo and harmonica, bake sourdough, practice and teach yoga, read spooky books, run along new trails, and write and record halloween music.
