Rob Roa, Director of Recruitment (he/him)
In 2010 I was wide-eyed and ready to explore the world of Jesuit education and formation, beginning my college experience with the Philippines Jesuits at the Ateneo de Manila University. I graduated with a degree in Philosophy and wholehearted committed to the Jesuit Volunteer Philippines, serving as a JV in Tacloban, Philippines – ground zero for the strongest typhoon to every make landfall at the time. I would serve for a year with rural farmers, assisting their business operation to shift from unjust cash crops to sustainable sustenance & commercial farming. Since then, I have been rooted in just business practices that center the most marginalized. I believe in human-centered leadership and processes that emphasize the human experience. I am firm follower of the principle: “Those closest to the solution are those closest to the problem.” My motivation is to put my faith into action for others.
I was born in Los Angeles, but grew up in Tampa, Florida before headed to the Philippines for college. From there I spent time in service in Tacloban, managing a local coffee roaster and café in Tampa, working for the Jesuit Volunteer Corps in Baltimore, and making my way back to Southern California to support JVC and JVC Northwest. I am excited to share the JV experience with more and more people as a powerful opportunity to shape our shared values. Outside of work, I am a sports enthusiast and prioritize an active life. If I am not watching or playing basketball, you can catch me chopping shop about baseball, hockey, or football. And if it’s not the typical sports talk, you can find me in nature, hiking, snowboarding, swimming, or taking a nap under the sun. My family and communities are my joy, and service and faith are my foundation – all things I find in JVC and JVC Northwest!
