Sarah Jones, JV Program Manager (she/her, they/them)
My roots are planted in the fast-paced and fast-talking East Coast, but currently find myself slowing down in the Pacific Northwest while supporting our current Jesuit Volunteers as our JV Program Manager. Born and raised in Bel Air, Maryland, I moved to Philadelphia (the opposite of Will Smith’s journey) to attend Saint Joseph’s University for undergraduate and graduate work in Social Psychology. After graduate school, I served as a JV in Bethel, Alaska (’07-08) at Bethel Alternative Boarding School (BABS). After a year on the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta, I traded salmon from the Kuskokwim River for cheese steaks and returned to Philadelphia to work in Residence Life at my alma mater, SJU. After many years with the Hawks, I returned to my other “alma mater”- JVC Northwest in the Summer of 2015. From August 2015-October 2017, I served as our Alumni Coordinator, connecting Former Jesuit Volunteers (FJVs) across the country. I spent lots of time sipping coffee and sharing potluck dishes with others who shared how they were “ruined for life” in church basements, living rooms, and coffee shops across the country. In my current role as the JV Program Manager, I support our Program Coordinator team and our current Jesuit Volunteers across the Northwest and try to attend as many JV Retreats as possible.
In addition to supporting JVs, I serve on our Equity committee, bring my sarcasm and wit to the Fun committee and am well versed in the nuanced Portland area recycling system. I am known as “Coach” to the volleyball team of St. Andrew Nativity School and volunteer as a Sexual Assault Victim Advocate in the Portland area. In my spare time, I enjoy earning frequent flyer miles, keeping up with my overly ambitious library holds, experimenting and fermenting in the kitchen, and curating the perfect mix CD (or Spotify playlist) for friends and family.
