Since 2006, former volunteers, friends, and supporters have come together annually for what has become our largest celebration and fundraiser of the year. This year, we will gather on May 18 at Seattle University to raise critical funds to support the ongoing service of our JVs and JV EnCorps members. We hope you can join us at this special event! Our goal is to raise $150,000.
These funds will make it possible for us to support our volunteers in a transformative year of service as they respond to needs throughout the Northwest.

Honoring
Fr. Jack Morris Legacy Award: Stephanie Ragland
Stephanie’s forty-five-year journey with JVC Northwest began as a JV (‘78-’80), community organizing in Seattle.
Choosing to remain in Seattle after her JV term, both her personal and professional life were deeply inspired and transformed through collaborations and partnerships with Jesuits and laypeople inspired by the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius. In 2001, these experiences called her on a new path in ministry, walking with and supporting those experiencing housing and food insecurity through her work at St. Francis House and the St. Vincent de Paul Society. Because of her experiences, she sees with new lenses, honoring the holy ground of her local and global community. Stephanie raised two children with her husband Jerry Johnsen in the neighborhood where she served as a JV. Now retired, she continues to participate in Ignatian inspired retreat work. Stephanie also makes room for gardening, reading, travel, and serving on the boards of the Franklin Alumni Association and Foundation and JVC Northwest.
Magis Award: Joel Hanson
Joel grew up in Snohomish, Washington where his experiences of service and leadership led him to pursue a Jesuit education at Gonzaga University. While at Gonzaga he enjoyed the time building relationships in Spokane but also while on service immersion trips in Denver, Zambia, and LA. Before serving in Sheet’ka (Sitka) with JVC Northwest (’18-’19), Joel spent a year as a JV in Washington, DC coordinating the Homeless Outreach Meal and Education program at Georgetown University. During his second year of service, he served at Southeast Alaska Independent Living (SAIL), an Independent Living Center whose mission is to inspire personal independence for seniors and people who experience disabilities. Joel was then offered a full-time position. Now, as the Sitka Program Director, Joel is known for his support of the JVs who serve at SAIL as well as those who continue to live in Sheet’ka. He is passionate about creating accessible and inclusive communities where all people thrive. Joel demonstrates true service to others – seen and unseen, acknowledged and invisible – that embodies the spirit of JVC Northwest.
